What Belongs in a Sitemap
Sitemaps should only list indexable, canonical URLs. Exclude redirects, URLs returning 404s, or pages with noindex meta tags, as these confuse search crawlers.
Common XML Errors
Ensure correct XML namespace declarations, escape characters, and check that sitemaps do not exceed file size limits (50MB or 50,000 URLs).
